Selenomethionine is selenium bound to the amino acid methionine. Selenium is an antioxidant mineral cofactor for the body's natural antioxidant systems – SOD and glutathione.

It is also necessary for conversion of the thyroid hormone T4 (thyroxine) to the active T3 form (triiodothyronine).
